EUROCITIES, founded in 1986, is the biggest network of European cities and is made up of over 130 cities in 30 European countries. Its purpose is to provide a platform for its members to share knowledge and experience, as well as analysing common problems and developing solutions through forums, workgroups, projects, activities and events.

This network of local governments aims to work on projects and activities jointly to improve citizens’ quality of life by means of involving them actively in the use and development of the cities themselves and in keeping with the charter approved by the Educating Cities.

Created in January 1991, this network connects the cities of Toulouse, Montpellier, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Zaragoza and Valencia. It aims to promote cooperation to contribute to European integration and strengthening the potential of each of its members in areas such as transport, culture, tourism and environment.

“Young Creators Biennial”

The Project Network UNESCO Associated Schools (ASPnet), commonly called the UNESCO Associated Schools, is a global network consisting of over 8,500 educational institutions in 180 countries. The entities making it up work for international understanding, peace, intercultural dialogue, sustainable development and implementation of quality education.

“Iberian-American Network of Digital Cities”

This initiative appeared in May 2001 and is an area open to all Iberian-American municipalities that have introduced or would like to introduce e-government solutions, as well as to others interested in promoting and carrying out initiatives involving local electronic administration with which to encourage citizens’ involvement in the information society. Valencia was host to the Digital Cities III Meeting in 2002.

This network aims to exchange experiences between the municipalities of the province of Valencia for the implementation of Local Agenda 21, as well as obtaining grants to achieve that goal. Along with this the County Council of Valencia provides advice and technical assistance to members of the network.

The Covenant of Mayors is an agreement signed by over 900 cities that intends to go beyond the aims of the European Union in reducing CO2 emissions by encouraging the use of clean and efficient energies.

The European Network Cities for Children was initiated by the City of Stuttgart in 2007. The Network offers European cities the possibility to exchange and to develop progressive concepts across national borders on how to promote the well-being of children, young persons and parents in the urban environment. The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, the Council of European Municipalities and Regions and The Committee of the Regions support the Network as patrons. Over 50 cities from 26 European countries take part actively in the Network activities.
