
Valencia is categorised as one of Europe’s most important international congress hosts. Many of these gatherings take place in one of the city’s emblematic buildings, the Palacio de Congresos de Valencia. This is the work of the prestigious architect Norman Foster, and is located in one of Valencia’s most cosmopolitan areas with architecture of tall skyscrapers. Its fishlike shape evokes the city’s Mediterranean character. Furthermore, Valencia has other sites to organise congresses and the highest-level business meetings, such as the City of Arts and Sciences’ Príncipe Felipe Science Museum and the Feria Valencia trade fair’s Centro de Eventos.

In November 2011, Valencia will host the “Global China Business Meeting”, a high level business event which on an annual basis brings together the managing directors of China´s main leading companies, as well as their equivalents in the rest of the world. Some 400 entrepreneurs and senior managers from the People´s Republic of China are expected in Valencia, along with the attendance of numerous European and American business people. The holding of this meeting means that Valencia will once more attract the attention of hundreds of international companies, as well as the journalists of the world's media.

Valencia’s long-standing business and trade tradition is one of the city’s points of excellence. For over 90 years, Feria Valencia has been dedicated exclusively to holding Europe’s most important international trade fairs and events. These meetings take place in a complex of recently renovated pavilions which enable congresses and trade fairs to be held simultaneously in the city, making it an avant-guard and unavoidable meeting point for any professional.

The European Space Agency (ESA) based in the Netherlands, chose Valencia as the new headquarters of the High Power Radio Frequency (RF) Space Laboratory that will specialize in two main functions: to provide a rapid response to breakdowns and incidents of microwave circuits of the satellites and space vehicles and, secondly, this center will approve all the elements that the European Space Agency send into space. The initiative will invest 15 million euros over 5 years, which will generate 800 highly skilled jobs, and the installation in our city of over 20 technology companies in the space area.

The Festival Mostra de Valencia Cinema del Mediterrani (Valencia Mediterranean film festival) has begun a new era with important changes in its contents and the firm intention of positioning itself among the top cinematographic events held in our country. Valencia will continue to internationally promote films from Mediterranean countries, although the international film market will be more and more present, positioning the city as a point of reference in the world of cinema.

Theatre, music and dance all converge in the València Escena Oberta (VEO) festival:
This is an event full of daring proposals and frenzied discoveries whose agenda is based on contemporary works, new drama and extreme stage experiences. Moreover, Valencia is a city rich in cultural life that brings theatre closer to people, turning urban areas into stages, and providing information and experience for young artists as a platform from which to launch their professional future.

Since 1999, the Centro Coreográfico de Teatres de la Generalitat Valenciana (the Valencia regional government’s Theatre Choreography Centre) has been responsible for organising Festival Dansa València. Every year this turns our city into the world focal point for dance, thanks to the extensive and varied agenda and the great many professionals that give performances. The Festival takes place in April and May.

Since 1997, Valencia has been host to the Campus Party, the biggest digital network event for technology, creativity, leisure and culture in the world. Every year this meeting brings together thousands of participants with their computers “in tow” from all over Spain and the world to share their concerns, exchange experiences and carry out all kinds of activities related to computers, communications and new technology. At the same time, the Campus Party acts as a top class showcase for presenting the latest advances in telemetry and technology in a stream of conferences and technical meetings. Valencia is committed to democratising new technology and training its citizens.
