
Valencia will celebrate the 31st Divina Pastora Marathon of Valencia on 20th November. The City of Arts and Sciences will be the venue for this race which aims to be a sports festival. The participants will find our city the ideal circuit for this kind of competition, because of its level ground and perfect temperature, between 12º and 17ºC.

In 2008 the Luis Puig Velodrome, one of the best athletics facilities in the world, held the World Athletics Championship. This competition is of the highest international level and the top personalities in world athletics took part. The media impact of this great event brought about an economic influx into the city of Valencia of 21 million euros. Valencia again showed its organisational capacity for international sporting events. Every day the city is committed to practising sporting activities at all levels and promotes sport as a means of maintaining Valencia’s citizens’ quality of life.

In 2007 Valencia became the first European City to hold the prestigious America’s Cup, the oldest sporting event in the world. Over 6 million people experienced the emotion of the competition live and the televised images reached a worldwide audience of 4,000 million spectators.
In 2010 the teams of BMW ORACLE Racing and Alhingui fought for the triumph in this important sports event.

In September 2011, our city will host the Valencia Triathlon which this time will be part of the famous TriGrandPrix circuit. The race will be called Valencia Triathlon TriGranPrix and it will be celebrated in the Royal Marine Juan Carlos I, with the participation of high-level athletes.

From 2008 till 2014, Valencia is the venue for the Formula 1 European Grand Prix. Its urban route takes in the Port of Valencia, which was transformed to hold the 32nd America’s Cup. For 4 days, the motors roar on the quayside and thousands of people throng to enjoy close up the motor racing event par excellence. Valencia is the only city in the world to have held the America’s Cup and a Formula 1 race in two consecutive years.

From 30th October to 7th November 2010, Valencia will experience all the magic of tennis, in the Open 500 – ATP Word Tour, with the participation of the world’s best players.

Valencia has won the award as European Capital of Sport 2011. The city has thus been rewarded for its commitment to physical activities and leadership in the world of sport. Valencia 2011 means showing the world how the city makes sporting activities the key to social events and integration of the citizens, with the aim of contributing to Valencians’ health, encouraging the cultural side of healthy physical activity, and showing their capacity for organising big international sporting events.

In 2010 the city of Valencia strengthened its presence in the international horse riding calendar by attracting a total of 90 horse riders, including the top 30 in the world, to the City of Arts and Sciences for this competition which is considered the Formula 1 of horse riding.

The Festival Mostra de Valencia Cinema del Mediterrani (Valencia Mediterranean film festival) has begun a new era with important changes in its contents and the firm intention of positioning itself among the top cinematographic events held in our country. Valencia will continue to internationally promote films from Mediterranean countries, although the international film market will be more and more present, positioning the city as a point of reference in the world of cinema.

Theatre, music and dance all converge in the València Escena Oberta (VEO) festival:
This is an event full of daring proposals and frenzied discoveries whose agenda is based on contemporary works, new drama and extreme stage experiences. Moreover, Valencia is a city rich in cultural life that brings theatre closer to people, turning urban areas into stages, and providing information and experience for young artists as a platform from which to launch their professional future.

Since 1999, the Centro Coreográfico de Teatres de la Generalitat Valenciana (the Valencia regional government’s Theatre Choreography Centre) has been responsible for organising Festival Dansa València. Every year this turns our city into the world focal point for dance, thanks to the extensive and varied agenda and the great many professionals that give performances. The Festival takes place in April and May.

Since 1997, Valencia has been host to the Campus Party, the biggest digital network event for technology, creativity, leisure and culture in the world. Every year this meeting brings together thousands of participants with their computers “in tow” from all over Spain and the world to share their concerns, exchange experiences and carry out all kinds of activities related to computers, communications and new technology. At the same time, the Campus Party acts as a top class showcase for presenting the latest advances in telemetry and technology in a stream of conferences and technical meetings. Valencia is committed to democratising new technology and training its citizens.
